Abstract

270,332. Longoni, E. April 30, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Spray carburettors. - The carburettor has main and slow-speed nozzles, the fuel being mixed with air before, its discharge into the suction passage; light and heavy fuels may be employed alternatively or in combination. Fuel from a float chamber 18, Fig. 2, passes through a calibrated orifice 28, tube 22 and openings 25 at the upper end thereof, to a well 26 where it is mixed with air entering through a cock 28 and duct 27 before passing to the main nozzle 20 in the suction passage 31. The slow-running device comprises a well 16, Fig. 1. fed from the float chamber through a duct 6, the well enclosing a tube 1 with calibrated bore and with orifices 3 in its wall. The well is open to atmosphere at 17 and the mixture passes to the outlet 9 through a bore. 7 open to atmosphere at 8. The butterfly throttle 10 is actuated by an arm 11 and the slow-running opening can be adjusted by a screw 13 in an arm 12. A carburettor for use with two fuels comprises a light fuel float chamber 18, Fig. 3. and a heavy fuel chamber 35. These supply respectively, according to the method described above, main chambers 22, 36 and slow running devices 1, 37. The main chambers deliver mixture to the interior of a valve 41 rotatable in a casing 46 and having outlet orifices, such as 43, for delivery into the main suction passage 15. The ports in the valve 41 may be arranged to give an alternative or a simultaneous supply. The slow running mixture passes through a duct 7<1>, controlled by the spindle 50 of the throttle valve, to the suction passage on the engine side of the throttle. A cock 51 permits of cutting off either of the fuels that is not required.
