Abstract

299,365. Schneebeli, H. Oct. 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-In a carburettor fuel passes direct from the tank through a pipe 5, gauze filter 7 and apertures 8 to a nozzle 1 located in a chamber 2 provided with air inlet ducts 3. The outlet from the nozzle is controlled by a needle valve 9 adapted to be actuated either by hand or engine governor. The valve has a screw-threaded spindle 10 passing through a nut 11 and may be rotated by a link 13 attached to a pin 14 in a slot 15 in a lever 12. The nozzle portion of the carburettor is screwed into a horizontal portion 16 secured direct to the engine by a flange 17 and provided with a diffuser 19 and air inlet apertures 20. Within the part 16 is arranged to slide, at right angles to the needle valve, a tubular member 22 slotted at 23 for the passage of the needle valve, and provided at the outlet end with a double conical head 26, 27 and plug 24 with ducts 25 and, at the other end, with an air inlet duct 29 in a plug 28. The member 22 is connected to the fuel valve spindle through linkage 30 - - 34. Rich mixture formed in the chamber 2 passes through the tubular member 22 into the diffuser 19 where it is mixed with air entering at 20. When the needle valve is in the position to give minimum fuel flow, the head 26, 27 is, at the same time, at the throat of the diffuser.
