Abstract

Spray carlurettors.-The parent Specification describes a carburettor in which air admitted to a preliminary mixing chamber is controlled by a valve or shutter carried by a lever mounted on the spindle of the throttle valve, and adapted to close the air passage as the throttle is opened. According to the invention, the shutter has an inclined face which coacts with an inclined face of the air-inlet pipe to close the air inlet at and only at the fully-open position of the throttle valve. Fuel is supplied to chamber 4, Fig. 2, through a constricted orifice in a plug 8 and is mixed with air entering by a pipe 6 before issuing into the mixing chamber 3 through orifices 7 in a tubular member 2. A duct 18 leads to a slowrunning nozzle 19 which communicates with the induction passage through duct 17 and apertures 16, 20, Fig. 3. Air to the tube 6 is admitted by a duct 5, Fig. 4, adapted to be closed by a shutter 15 on the spindle of the butterfly throttle 13 when the latter is fully opened. The air may be independently controlled by a plug valve 21, Figs. 2 and 4, which by means of a port 25 and recess 26 may also control additional air to the slow-running nozzle 19. The opening of the throttle valve is limited by a screw 30. Specification 153,506 is referred to.
