Abstract

508,215. Spray carburetters. HERZOG, E. Jan. 1, 1938, No. 33, [Class 7 (iii)] In a floatless carburetter the fuel supply is controlled by a valve coupled to the air throttle valve so that as the accelerator pedal is depressed the fuel valve is fully opened, before the throttle is fully open, and is moved back from its fully open position as the throttle is fully opened. As shown in Fig. 2, the coupling between the fuel valve 12 and the throttle valve 7 comprises a link 10 connected to a crank-pin carried by a disc 8 on the throttle spindle 4. To vary the eccentricity of the crank-pin, a dovetailed projection 9a on the pin is adjustably secured in a groove 8a in the disc by a nut 9c. The position of maximum opening of the fuel valve is indicated to the driver of a vehicle by a spring-catch un a rod connected with the accelerator pedal. The valve 12 operates in a bushing 14 and controls the passage of fuel, fed from a nipple 20 to a recess 17, to a nozzle 27 into a Venturi tube 24. During idling, when the valve 12 is closed, the suction opens a ball valve 36 to admit fuel to the nozzle 27 through a groove 41 in the bushing 14. In the modified construction shown in Fig. 7, the fuel is delivered to an annular groove 42 in a member 46 forming part of a Venturi tube 44 and enters the mixing chamber through radial passages 43.
