Abstract

531,589. Spray carburetters. GUIDI, R. July 27, 1939, Nos. 21830 and 21831. Convention dates, July 27, 1938 and Nov. 28, 1938. [Class 7 (iii)] Air entering at 14 past a spring-controlled throttle 15 is carburetted by one or more jets 26, 26<1>, the opening of one 26 of which is regulated from the accelerator connection 38 to the throttle, the fuel being supplied from a chamber 2 which is fed by a pump and is connected by an orifice to a chamber 5 having a spring-pressed diaphragm to absorb the fluctuations of pressure caused by the fuel pump. The jet 26 is controlled by a needle valve 23, Fig. 4, seating on a calibrated orifice in a replaceable disc 24, the valve being connected to a spring- pressed diaphragm 35 and having its lift limited by a stop 41 adjusted by an arm 40 connected to the accelerator rod 38. Air enters through the hollow bore of the valve 23, and fuel is supplied to the chamber 31 through connections 34, 33 and passages 32. The pressure of the fuel on the diaphragm 35 opens the valve 23, and the fuel flows through passages 37 to the nozzle. When a second jet 261 is provided for slow running, this is controlled by a similar valve, which, however, is pressed on to its seat by the spring acting on the diaphragm, and has its lift limited by an adjustable screw stop, the entry of air through the bore of the valve being also regulated by a screw threaded needle valve. Secondary slow-running air is admitted through an adjustable orifice 67. In a modification, the nozzle 26<1> is omitted, and the stop 41 for the fuel valve is adjusted to leave a slight play for slow running when at its innermost position, fuel being cut off for stopping the engine by a second Bowdencontrolled stop acting on the valve 23. The chamber 5 for regulating the fuel pressure may also be omitted. ,
