Abstract

25,324. James, C. E., and Robertson, T. R. Nov. 6. Spray carburettors.-The air valve carries a number of fuel nozzles which are brought into action in succession as the valve opens. The air valve 2 works in conjunction 'with the choke tube 1<a> and slides over a fuel well 5 communicating with the float-chamber. The lower end of the air valve forms a dash-pot device 8. The upper surface of the valve supports several nozzles 13 which are secured by a screwed plug 14 and dip into the well 5. A nozzle 17 extends further into the well and conducts fuel to the engine side of the throttle for starting. A water or exhaust jacket is provided at 18. As shown, the air valve opens by suction; but it may be positively actuated, and the throttle valve dispensed with. The fuel passages may be formed by drilling the valve stem. The floatchamber may be annular and co-axial with the well 5.
