Abstract
229,027. Carr, C. T. Nov. 24, 1923. Spray carburettors.-A casing d has, screwed thereon, a cap e which carries a nozzle g and holds a flexible diaphragm h carrying a sleeve i surrounding the nozzle which projects into the induction passage on the engine side of the throttle valve c. The sleeve i carries a stem j on which are mounted two valves k, m adapted to seat respectively on the outer and inner sides of the nozzle aperture. The valve m is grooved at o and carries a plunger q fitting in an adjustable sleeve s and provided with a tapered groove r. The diaphragm is open to the atmosphere on the side t, and on the other side is subject to suction. A controlled inflow of air may be permitted on the suction side through an aperture u to assist in atomizing the fuel. At low suction the valve k shuts off the fuel; at high suction the valve m permits only the quantity passing the grooves o, and at intermediate suctions the fuel flow is controlled by the groove r. The throttle c may be fitted as a separate unit and the carburettor may be screwed into the induction pipe instead of being attached thereto by a flange a. Water may also be admitted as described in Specification 210,898, [Class 7 (ii), Internal-combustion engines, Arrangement &c. of]. According to the Provisional Specification, the throttle valve may comprise a movable cone coacting with a fixed cone and having an aperture in its apex.
