Abstract

210,898. Carr, C. T. Nov. 16, 1922. Fluid-actuated valves.-Water is admitted to the induction pipe of an internal-combustion engine through a nozzle e which is closed at high suctions by a valve i and at low suctions by a valve j, both valves being carried by a sleeve g attached to a suction-actuated diaphragm f. The water is admitted by an inlet m, and passes through a tube p and a conical slot o in a plunger n to the nozzle e; the plunger n, which is attached to the valve i by a universal joint, is a sliding fit in the tube p, and the vaive i is either a loose fit in the tube p or is slotted on its periphery to allow the passage of the water. The length of the slot o which is exposed for the passage of the water can be varied by adjusting the tube p. Air may be admitted to the induction pipe through the annular passage v by providing a valve-controlled' air inlet u in the chamber t. According to the Provisional Specification, a piston is used in place of the diaphragm.
