Abstract

115,525. Newell, J. A. June 15, 1917. Spray carburettors.-Cleaning of the nozzles and fuel passages is effected by cutting off their communication with the float chamber and placing them in communication with the induction pipe on the engine side of the throttle valve, whereby foreign matter is withdrawn by suction. A twoway plug valve I adjusted by a lever K places the nozzles C in communication either with the float chamber E or, through passages G, H, the induction pipe A. The plug valve may be connected to the throttle valve so that the nozzles are scavenged only when the throttle valve is closed. The nozzles comprise an annular fuel space formed between an outer casing and an inner adjustable tube M through which air may pass, and be discharged through radial ducts Q, and then with the fuel through the nozzle outlet, which is formed between a conical head L on the tube M and a corresponding conical portion on the casing. A by-pass is provided at D.
