Abstract

108,341. Pullin, C. G. July 28, 1916. Spray carburettors.-A multiple-jet carburettor is provided with a separate and expanding passage for each of the nozzles a, b, c between the mixing- chamber of the nozzle and the induction pipe of the engine, and with a rotary-plug valve l opening and closing the air passages at the point of entry of the fuel nozzles. In the form shown, the expanding passages O, P, Q are enclosed by a diverging exhaust passage S, which is curved as shown in Fig. 3 to direct the exhaust equally against the three passages 0, P, Q. The nozzles a, b, c are supplied with fuel from either of two float chambers g, h, containing light and heavy fuel respectively, the supply being controlled by a two-way valve j and by a screw valve k adjacent to each nozzle. The valve plug i is hollow and is preferably .fitted with a cylindrical gauze strainer. The valve has three passages o, m, q opposite the nozzles a, b, c, each of these passages opening into a passage p, Fig. 1, leading into one of the passages 0, P, Q, and the valve is pressed against the nozzle outlets by spring-controlled steel balls r, t. The passages o, m, q are such that they come into action successively on the rotation of the valve, and the valve may be in three sections adjustable in relation to each other, each section being provided with one of the passages o, m, q.
