Abstract

125,408. Ricardo, H. R. July 4, 1916. Spray carburettors.-A carburettor for use more especially with engines for aircraft and working on the supercharging principle, comprises means which may admit to the induction pipe on the engine side of the throttle valve either air alone. or mixture or, if desired, neither. For delivering mixture to twin sets of engines, the carburettor comprises two main uncontrolled nozzles A to which air is supplied through two passages C<1>, C<2> formed by the casing C, from which also an uncontrolled pilot nozzle G receives its air supply through ports J. The outlet from the pilot nozzle mixing chamber H<1> is controlled by a segment M<1> of a rotatable tubular valve L which is actuated from the driving position, and has also a segment M for controlling an auxiliary air inlet N. The segments are so related that. either one or the other of the passages H<1>, N is open to the induction pipes E through ports O, or both are closed. The throttle valves F are of the rotatable barrel type and, in their closed or nearly closed position, allow mixture for slow running to pass from the pilot nozzle mixing chamber H<1> through passages H<3>, F<1> to the engine. One main nozzle only may be employed.
