Spray carburettors.-In carburettors having a pilot nozzle opening into the throttlevalve chamber, the throttle valve, which rotates, is provided with a scoop or grooved enlargement adapted to make and break communication between the pilot nozzle and induction pipe in such a manner that the area past the nozzle increases as the throttle opens The throttle valve 5 is shown with the scoop or enlargement 6 opposite the pilot jet 4, which is fed from the petrol float chamber 11 through the pipe c. The main nozzle 3, Fig. 3, which is placed transversely of the air passage and may be fed by means of a two - way cock 12 either from the petrol chamber 11 or paraffin chamber 10, Fig. 2, is provided with a damper 9 actuated by a cam 7 on the throttle spindle and adapted to close the main jet while the pilot nozzle is in action. Filtering- washers of copper gauze are shown at 13, 14, 15, and a hand-actuated auxiliary-air valve at 16.
