Abstract

176,501. Hudson, J. G. Dec. 7, 1920. Spray carburettors.-The whole of the air, preferably heated, is admitted past a suction-actuated pivoted valve A upon which is freely mounted a bell-crank lever E, one arm of which engages a fuel valve B, the other arm carrying a roller H which bears against a finger C adjustable from the dash-board. A dash-pot G prevents fluttering of the fuel valve and leakage of air past its spindle. For starting, the finger C is moved into the position D, X, which causes the fuel valve to open fully for a small opening of the air valve, at which small opening air is admitted at high velocity both above and below a curved perforated plate J. The running position of the finger C is indicated at Y, and the coasting position, for air with no fuel, at Z. The mixing chamber K is jacketed at M by water or exhaust gases and contains baffles in the form of wires W. The needle valve may be tapered and formed with four flats. The cover N is secured by a togglearrangement comprising an arm Q pivoted at R and engaging at its upper end a bridle wire O pivoted to projections at P on the body.
