Abstract
152,499. Dyer, C. M. Sept. 19, 1919. Regulating. - An auxiliary air valve communicating with the induction pipe between the carburettor and the engine is arranged to work in conjunction with the ignitioncontrol mechanism in such a manner that, as the spark is advanced, the air valve is progressively opened. The air inlet comprises a cup-shaped member connected by a tube to the induction pipe and arranged adjacent the ignitioncontrol rod 2. A disk 5 provided with a tapered slot 6 is fixed in the mouth of the cup and is surmounted by a revoluble disk 7 provided with a triangular aperture 8. The disk 7 carries a slotted arm 9 which engages a pin or roller 11 mounted on an arm 12 secured to the ignitioncontrol rod 2. As the spark is advanced, the aperture 8 is moved along the tapered slot 6 to admit an increasing quantity of air. By closing the throttle and advancing the spark, air may be supplied for scavenging or braking.
