Abstract

238,980. Goddyn, J. June 11, 1924. Spray carburettors.-The manually rotatable valve 3, which controls simultaneously fuel, air, and mixture, surrounds the fuel nozzle 9, and is provided with a hole 4 controlling the air inlet 2 and with a straight or curved edge 5 controlling the mixture outlet 1, the arrangement being such that, as the valve is open, the mixture outlet is at first greater than the air inlet, the difference diminishing as the valve is further opened until, in the fully open position, the air inlet and mixture outlet are equal in size. The fuel nozzle comprises an adjustable slot 14 formed between a fixed part 21, carried by the cover 21a and provided with a fuel passage 13, and a part 9, slidable on a projection 28 on the part 21 by the rotation of a nut 18. The parts 21, 9 are surrounded by a sleeve 19 having an oval slot 20 adapted to register with the slot 14, an outer sleeve 10, provided with an annular passage 11 and with a slot 11<a> registering with the slot 20, surrounding the sleeve 19. The hollow centre 8 of the throttle valve 3 surrounds the sleeves, and is provided with a V-shaped opening 7 the point of which is situated adjacent the slot 11<a>. The throttle valve 3 and the sleeves 10, 19 are secured together for simultaneous operation, the sleeve 19 being set so that the oval slot 20 overlaps the slot 14 to a minimum extent when the throttle valve 3 is closed. The valve 3 is provided with an air inlet 24 and mixture passage 25 for slow running.. During normal running, fuel from the slot 14 passes through the slots 20, 11<a> and the V-shaped opening 7 into the main air stream passing from the inlet 2 to the outlet 1; during slow running, the air entering through the inlet 24 passes through the slot 11<a> and, together with fuel from the slot 20, passes through the passage 11 and 25 to the outlet 1. The fuel inlet 12 is carried by an eccentric 15 and is thus adjustable in height with respect to the nozzle.
