Abstract

327,953. Wade, H., (Graflich Schaffgotsch'sche Werke Ges.). Dec. 13, 1928. Spray carburettors.-Relates to carburettors having a suction-actuated double valve member for regulating and cutting off the supply of fuel. The member comprises an inner valve, for controlling the idling fuel supply, which is guided in and adapted to seat upon the outer valve which controls the normal supply of fuel. According to the invention, the double valve is located in a removable casing arranged across and at right angles to the mixing chamber, and the suction is transmitted thereto through a duct which supplies mixture for idling and fresh air alone for normal running. A casing 1, Fig. 1, secured by a cap 3 contains the double valve comprising an idling valve 8, Figs. 1 and 4, and a main valve 4, the valves being provided with flanges 9, 7 respectively adapted to be acted unon by suction transmitted through a duct 13. The main valve controls the duct 6 and itself has a duct 10 controlled by the valve 8. A bye-pass 47 controlled by a screw 46 leads from duct 13 to the engine side of the throttle valve 14, and an air inlet 16 controlled by a screw 17 is adapted to be covered by the throttle in its closed position. Fig. 4 shows the valve 8 ifted for idle running, air entering through ports 11. For normal running the valve 4 is lifted to open passage 6 and close passage 10, fuel then issuing into the mixing chamber through ports 15. At the same time, atmospheric air enters through ducts 1<a>, Figs. 2, 4 and passes to the mixing chamber by way of ducts 13, 47. Con. densed fuel collects in an annular channel 49 and may be conveyed to the engine side of the throttle valve through ducts 50, 51 adapted to be controlled by a screw 52. Primary air is admitted and controlled by a rotatable ported valve 18, the ports 19 in which are smaller than the ports 20 in the casing 21. Two or more holes 25 in valve 18 are adapted to register with ducts 26, 27, Figs. 1, 2, to admit extra air after the ports 19 have been fully uncovered. An additional atomizing device comprises a cylinder 38 at right angles to the casing 1, with a perforated end 39. The air velocity in the vicinity of the casing is regulated by screws 28, Fig. 2. To facilitate starting, a spring-loaded valve 30 in a passage 29, Fig. 1, is adapted to be opened from the driving position. Fuel is supplied at 37 through a strainer 36 to a sleeve 33 the bore of which may be regulated by a screw 34.
