Abstract

224,459. Pickard, W. April 14, 1924. Spray carburettors.-Water from a constant level reservoir d is supplied by a pipe c to a steam generator b filled with metal filings or turnings and situated in the exhaust pipe a. The generated steam passes through the pipe f, steam trap g, and pipe h to the engine carburettor i. Valves e and h<1> controlling respectively the water supply to and the steam outlet from the vaporizing tube b are connected by a linkage mechanism to the throttle valve n of the carburettor so that the supply of steam is proportioned to the opening of the throttle n. A drain cock o for the steam trap g, opened when all the other valves are closed, may be operated from the throttle valve. The constant level reservoir d may be dispensed with, water being supplied to the tube b through the valve e direct from a tank which, in the case of a motor vehicle, may be situated on the dash board.
