Abstract
513,392. Starting. HEYWOOD, C. F. Feb. 6, 1939, No. 3839. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1938. [Class 7 (v)] In a device for starting an engine'by means of compressed air, an injection of carburetted air into the induction pipe is effected by the air used for starting. As shown in Fig. 1, the supply pipe 9 for starting air is connected at 10 to a fuel container 1, into which dips a pipe 6 leading to the induction pipe and provided with an air inlet 7 above the fuel level and a submerged jet 8. Non-return valves 12, 4 are provided in the air inlet to the container 1 and in an overflow opening 3. In a modification, Fig. 2, the outlet pipe 20 is connected to a pipe 13 open at the upper end and having a 'small lateral opening 16 beneath the fuel level. The fuel contained in the pipe 13 is first driven out by the compressed air, admitted at 19, after which the device supplies carburetted air.
