Abstract

1,018,141. Reciprocating pumps. DOWTY ROTOL Ltd. Oct. 29, 1962 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 38980/61. Addition to 881,129. Heading F1A. A hydraulically actuated piston 5 having differential areas due to the struts 8 connecting it to the identical piston 6, actuates a pump diaphragm 15 through a volume of liquid in chamber 17. At the end of the working stroke any excess liquid in the chamber 17 causes stretching of the diaphragm 15 and a pressure difference in the chambers 17, 18 which difference is communicated to opposite sides of a diaphragm 29 which controls a discharge orifice 36, permitting discharge from the chamber 17 on a given pressure difference which may be adjusted by altering the vertical position of the orifice 36. An opposed pump operated by the piston 6 has a similar valve. The valve diaphragm 29 may be spring loaded.
