Abstract

1,048,272. Centrifugal pumps. HENRY SYKES Ltd. March 31, 1964 [March 15, 1963], No. 10475/63. Heading F1C. A centrifugal pump maintained primed by a continuously running auxiliary vacuum pump (not shown), comprises an impeller 12 mounted on a rotary shaft 13 which enters the impeller casing 11 via the lower part of a reservoir chamber 10 for the inflowing liquid. The volute portion of the impeller casing 11 is cast with extensions 34, 35 which form part of the reservoir. The reservoir chamber 10 has an inlet 23, and an outlet 33 connected to the impeller chamber through a flap valve 32 and a sub-chamber 31. Two float-controlled valves 26, 28 are opened independently in accordance with the liquid level in the chamber 10 to communicate the latter with either the auxiliary vacuum pump through a pipe 25, or atmosphere.
