Abstract
1317164 Centrifugal pumps; turbine engine fuel systems BENDIX CORP 9 July 1970 [10 July 1969] 33485/70 Headings F1C and F1G Pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to turbine engines, comprises a main pump 16, Fig.3, and a starting pump 12 driven by a common shaft. At low speeds the pump 16 develops insufficient pressure to open associated discharge valve 40 so that the outlet 34 receives fuel only from the pump 12. The pump 12 is of the vortex-flow type and has a pressure-actuated by-pass valve 33 which returns excess fuel to the inlet region of pump 12. At a predetermined speed the pressure developed by pump 16 is sufficient to open the valve 40 and to close a valve 44 via a control piston and pilot valve arrangement 46 so that the outlet 34 is supplied only by the pump 16. Closure of the valve 44 not only terminates the supply to the pump 12 but drains the pump 12 through conduit 68, recess 66 and passage 70 and communicates the pump 12 with atmosphere via passages 62, 64.
