Abstract

1,182,476. Rotary vane pumps. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. Oct.16, 1967 [Oct.22, 1966], No.47065/67. Heading F1F. A rotary sliding vane pump, particularly for servo steering systems in motor vehicles, comprises a housing 2, Figs. 1, 3, a centrally mounted oval cam ring or stator 5, a driven rotor 4 carrying a plurality of radially sliding vanes 7 and a hydraulic pressure medium control valve 10 for by - passing hydraulic fluid from pumps discharge chambers 9, 9<SP>1</SP> to pump suction chambers 8, 8<SP>1</SP> through a main by-pass passage 14 and a smaller diameter preliminary by-pass passage 17 extending along the main by-pass passage on the drive side of the pump. The centering of the cam ring 5 is by means of member 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>11</SP>, with the member 12, Fig. 5, of smooth contour located opposite to the outlets of the passages 14, 17 to divide the flow between the chambers 8, 8<SP>1</SP> without turbulence and pressure losses. At the same time flow through the passages 14, 17 sucks oil from a suction bore 13 connected to the pump reservoir to ensure complete filling of the pump suction chambers and avoidance of cavitation. The function of the flow regulating valve 10 is such that with increasing speed of the pump the differential pressure upstream and downstream of a throttle in the pump discharge duct increases to increase the opening of the valve and increase the flow into the passage 14.
