Abstract

1,260,833. Centrifugal pumps. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. April 16, 1969 [Feb.15, 1968], No.7367/68. Heading F1C. In a self-priming pumping arrangement, e.g. for the fuel system of a helicopter, comprising a centrifugal pump 10 arranged to draw liquid from a low level tank 13 through piping 12 and a highlevel reservoir 11, the volume of the latter is greater than the volume of the piping 12 by an amount dependent on the vapour pressure and on the volume change in the piping during the most adverse conditions. Thus, during priming, the liquid in the reservoir is always sufficient to cause the pump to initiate liquid flow from the tank to the reservoir. An injector 14, powered by the pump discharge, withdraws vapour from the reservoir.
