Abstract

914,077. Centrifugal pumps. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., JOSEPH. June 2, 1961 [June 27, 1960], No. 22379/60. Class 110 (1). In a centrifugal boost pump for an aircraft engine fuel system, having an axially disposed inlet and a tangentially disposed outlet and adapted to be driven by an hydraulic motor deriving its motive fluid either from the main fuel pump or a separate pump driven by the engine, an ejector is associated with the pump outlet and adapted for connection to the outlet of the hydraulic motor, whereby fuel is drawn into the pump outlet from the pump casing. The centrifugal pump shown is submerged in an aircraft fuel tank and driven by a swashplatetype hydraulic motor (not shown) supplied with fuel as motive liquid from a main fuel pump or from a separate engine-driven pump. The outlet of the hydraulic motor is connected at 10 to an ejector 12 located within the tangential discharge 5 of the pump, whereby fuel is drawn from the pump casing 3 through holes 13 into the ejector. Any fuel vapour thus drawn into the ejector is condensed as the pressure increases. The pump is thereby rendered self-priming.
