Abstract

1360478 Priming centrifugal pumps WILKINSON RUBBER LINATEX Ltd 11 Dec 1972 [20 Dec 1971] 59062/71 Heading F1C A priming device for connection between a pump 7 and a liquid reservoir situated at a lower level than the pump comprises a chamber 2 having an inlet 3 including a non-return valve 5 for connection to the reservoir through a conduit 4 and an outlet 6 for connection to the pump, a non-return air bleed 12 and a liquidlevel responsive control means for cyclically activating and halting the pump so that the liquid level within the chamber falls and rises towards a lower level B and an upper level A respectively to draw air from the conduit into the chamber and then expel air through the air bleed until the liquid enters the chamber from the reservoir. The levels A and B are sensed by respective electrodes 19 and 16 which are connected to a control circuit 23 which switches off the driving motor 8 when the pump has reduced the level to B. Static pressure in the pump then causes the liquid to re-fill the chamber 2, thereby displacing air from the chamber through the non- return bleed valve 12. When the level has thus risen to A, the driving motor 8 is switched on again and continues running until the liquid level has fallen to B again. The cycle of operations continues until liquid enters the chamber 2 from the conduit 4, whereafter the pump runs continuously.
