Abstract

1,139,820. Centrifugal pumps. MORTON INTERNATIONAL Inc. Oct. 10, 1966 [Dec. 17, 1965], No. 45255/66. Heading F1C. A centrifugal pump for liquids containing solids having an inlet 16 and an outlet 18, comprises an elongated casing 12 communicating through apertures 48 with a liquid accumulator 47. Air trapped at the top of the casing by the pumped liquid forms a baffle between the pumped liquid and sealing means 24. The latter comprises a rotary seal 25 and is supplied with sealing water or other liquid compatible with that being pumped. Alternatively, pressurized sealing air may be used. A clear plastics or glass sight tube 55 serves as a safety device for indicating leakage at the sealing means. Removable plugs 49, 51 facilitate cleaning of the accumulator. The pump shaft is supported in two bearings 50, 52. Pump mounting brackets 53, 54 are provided.
