Abstract
394,187. Vacuum pumps. A. C. SPARK PLUG CO., Flint, Michigan, U.S.A. Sept. 28, 1932, No. 26973. Convention date, April 23. [Class 8 (i).] A vacuum diaphragm pump is connected, e.g. to the windscreenwiper, and discharges to the induction pipe of the internal-combustion engine driving the vehicle. The diaphragm 49 is actuated by a plunger 37 contacting with an eccentric 27 and a resilient block 59 is fitted between the end of the plunger and the diaphragm. A spring 73 effects the suction stroke and a spring 41 is fitted to cause the plunger to follow the eccentric. Should the suction in the induction pipe be sufficient to overcome the spring 73, the plunger 37 ceases to contact with the diaphragm. The suction pipe is connected to the nipple 17 and air passes through the filter acreen 83 to a disc suction valve located in a partition of the annular casing. Delivery takes place through the delivery valve 99 and nipple 19. Both the suction and delivery valves are mounted upon a quadrant plate secured to the casing and positioned in the same partition.
