Abstract

224,698. White, A. E., (Stewart-Warner Speedometer Corporation). Oct. 24, 1923. Vacuum apparatus. - In an automatic fuelfeed apparatus, the vacuum is produced in the suction chamber B<1> by a pump C, the intake of which is connected by a pipe C<3> to the chamber B<1> while the discharge C<4> is connected to the secondary chamber B<2>. The piston C<2> of the pump may be operated by the suction of the induction pipe A or of the oil circulating pump D, the chamber C<5> of the pump being connected to those two sources of suction through a chamber G provided with two non-return valves, so that the source of stronger suction operates. At the end of the suction stroke the piston opens an atmospheric valve C<6> and destroys the vacuum in the chamber C<5>, the piston being returned by a spring. In another form, the chamber C<5> is connected to the two sources of suction through a hand-operated rotary valve.
