Abstract
682,913. Fuel-injection pumps. AKTIEBOLAGET VOLVO. Jan. 19, 1951 [Jan. 21, 1950], No. 1542/51. Class 102 (i). A fuel-injection pump for in ternal combustion engines hav ing an actuator for the pistor and means between the actua tor and the piston adapted during the pressure stroke to be suddenly reduced in length anc thereby cause a temporary in terruption of the injection of the fuel. In the constructior shown, the piston 4 is urged by a spring 28 towards a tappe 17 attached to a piston 16 with in a sleeve 13 having a cross wall 24 carrying a roller 15 that engages the cam 11. The sleeve 13 has a port 20 that ai the end of the suction stroke is in communication with fluic under pressure in a passage 21 so that the piston 16 is pressec against an abutment 22. During the delivery stroke, a port 25 in the sleeve 13 communicates with the exhaust port 26 and no drive is transmitted to the piston 4 until an abutment 27 engages the piston 16. The disposition of the tappet 17 and roller 15 to the piston 16 and sleeve 13 respectively may be reversed. The sleeve 13 or a further sleeve surrounding it may be provided with a helical slot to vary the time of release of the fluid pressure. A pad 38 may be provided for lubricating the cam.
