Abstract

241,906. Hemrich & Ratzel. Oct. 23, 1924, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Vacuum apparatus.- In a vacuum system of raising liquids. such as fuel iu motor vehicles, several intermediate vessels at different levels are arranged between the reservoir A and the discharge chamber F, adjacent vessels being exposed to suction and atmospheric pressure respectively. A float 13 in the chamber D controls valves 11, 12 and when in its lowest position opens the chamber D to the suction in the pipe 8, whereby fuel is raised from the vessel C to the chamber D, and at the same time from the tank A to the vessel B, by the action of the suction in the pipe 6. At the same time, the valve 12 being depressed opens the chambers H, C to atmospheric pressure which permanently exists in the chamber F by reason of the air inlet 9. When the float 13 rises enough to operate the valves 11, 12, opening the chamber D to atmospheric pressure, whereupon the fuel begins to flow out past the valve 15 into the discharge chamber F. At the same time the chamber C is put under suction and the chamber B under atmospheric pressure, so that fuel is sucked from one to the other. The number of intermediate vessels may be increased.
