Abstract

1,202,384. Controlling compressors. MASCHINEN UND APPARATEBAU SCHKEUDITZ VEB. Oct.10, 1967, No.46269/67. Heading F1N A refrigerant compressor 1, when in-operative, is isolated from its inlet line 8 and outlet line 10 by suction and discharge shut-off valve 7, 9 which open when the pressure of the compressor's lubricant in a line 17 reaches a predetermined value. The valves 7, 9 are shown in their unloaded positions corresponding to the compressor being stopped or just started. When first started the compressor's output is returned to the inlet line 8 through the valves 7, 9 and a bypass line 36. As the lubricant in the line 17 increases in pressure, a piston 39 in the valve 7 is depressed so that a rod 40 moves to open a pilot valve 41, 55 of the valve 7. The opening of the pilot valve collapses pressure in a control chamber 34 connected by a line 32 to the outlet line 10 upstream of the discharge shut-off valve 9. Hence the rod 40 continues to move, overcoming the spring 29, and thereby causing opening of the main valve member 26 of the valve 7 to open the inlet line 8. A large diameter portion 43 of the rod 40 closes the by-pass line 36 and the final movement of the rod 40 causes a member 56 to close connection of the control chamber 34 to the outlet line 10, and hence the chamber is maintained at suction pressure. Thereafter pressure is builtup in the outlet line 10 by the compressor 1, thereby opening the discharge valve 9 against a spring 30. The reduced pressure in the control chamber 34 is communicated by a control line 35 to a chamber 46, thereby to cause opening of a valve 11 and allow oil to return to the compressor through a line 24, 25.
