Abstract
466,680. Liquid - pressure engines. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., WRIGHT, J., and TREVASKIS, H. Feb. 27, 1936, No. 5868. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A hydraulic motor comprises a power cylinder 2 and a valve-actuating cylinder 3 separated by a ported web 4. The power cylinder has a spring-loaded piston with a hollow rod which is reciprocated by liquid controlled by a coaxial slide valve connected to a spring-loaded piston. A hydraulically-actuated compressor 2 for filling a container 32 with air is shown. Oil is supplied from a pump 1 to a connection 17 and discharged at 16 to a reservoir 29 supplying the pump. A relief valve 31 is arranged between the connections 27, 30. The spring-pressed piston 6 has a rod 5 with a through passage 8, a passage 9 with outlets spaced from the ends of the rod, and an annular port 10. The rod 5 passes into a hollow rod on the spring-pressed, power piston 11. The left-hand end of cylinder 3 is connected by a passage 22 to the discharge 16. The piston 11 may rotate a gun turret. As shown, the chamber 13 is closed and provided with suction and discharge air valves 24, 25. Fluid supplied to passage 17 moves the piston 11 to the right. When port 26 is opened to pressure fluid, the valve piston 6 is moved to the left and the discharge 16 opened. The oil in space 19 is expelled by the spring 14, and oil in the space of rod 12 is discharged through passages 8, 22. When the rod 12 unseals port 26, the spring 7 moves the piston 6 and rod 5 to the right and opens the supply. When the oil pressure is unable to move the piston 11, the groove 10 registers with the supply and the pump 1 maintains the pressure. The pump 1 may operate at reduced power, or byepass liquid through the valve 31. When the pressure in the reservoir 32 drops, the cycle begins again. When the rod 12 operates a gun turret, the valve 31 may be operated by hand.
