Abstract

248,334. Meineke, F. March 2. 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Cam-actuated pumps; conclusion-preventing.- The valves of a pump are prevented from knocking by controlling the rate of flow of the liquid passing the valves. In one method, the pump piston is caused to dwell at the ends of the strokes by providing concentric portions 9-10, 11-12 on the actuating cam. In another method, a cam-actuated piston in a small cylinder communicating with the pump barrel moves so as to supply liquid to the barrel while the delivery valve is closing and to withdraw liquid while the suction valve is closing. In another method, an auxiliary pump pumps liquid to and from a cylinder having two diameters to operate two coupled pistons of corresponding sizes, the space between the pistons being connected to the main pump barrel, so that during the closing of the delivery valve the space is diminished, and during the closing of the suction valve it is increased.
