Abstract
443,443. Deep - well pumps. GEE, W. J., 14, Queen Victoria Street, London. May 28, 1934, Nos. 12900, 19057, and 30663. [Class 102 (i)] A deep - well pump comprises a number of pistons 21, mounted on a common rod 28, the stroke of the pump being less than the diameter of the pistons, Spring washers may be interposed between the pistons and the spacing sleeves 23 for cushioning purposes. The pistons operate in separate compartments, formed in a bore in a cylinder body 4 by discs 18, 19, 20 spaced by liners 9. The body 4 is contained in a casing 1 and divides the latter into an inlet chamber 10 and a discharge chamber 11. The pistons are double-acting and the inlet ports 24, 25 are controlled by a slide valve 30 and the discharge ports 26, 27 by a slide valve 33. The piston-rod 28 is operated by a double eccentric 41 with a forked strap 42 having upward extensions 48 carrying a pin 47. A three-armed lever, loose on the driving shaft 36, has a vertical arm 44, sliding through a hole in the pin 47, and horizontal arms 45, which operate the slide valves 30, 33. In a modification the slide valves are replaced by automatic lift valves, the suction valves being located at the bottom of the chambers 10, 11 and the discharge valves at the top. In a further modification the cylinder body has two bores, each comprising a number of piston compartments. The piston-rods are operated by eccentrics on an over-head shaft and a rotary distributing valve between the cylinder bores is driven by bevel gearing.
