496,967. Fuel - injection pumps. PRECISION MECANIQUE. June 11, 1937, No. 16327. Convention date, June 11, 1936. [Class 102 (i)] In a fuel-injection pump a spring-loaded piston P is arranged in a bore 9 between the pump cylinder 5 and the delivery valve 7. and the passage 12, provided. with the throttle E, connects both sides of the piston P. As the speed of the pump increases, the pressure difference on the piston P raises it against the spring 10 until the spill ports are open when the piston returns to its seat and produces a partial vacuum in the bore 9 which has to be filled on the next stroke of the pump piston 1 before delivery past the valve 7 commences. The pump delivery therefore decreases with increased speed. The throttling of the passage may be caused by ports or grooves on the pistons 1 or P. In a further modification the passages 12 may be duplicated to produce different throttling effects for either stroke of the piston 1. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement wherein an adapter is fitted between the pump cylinder and delivery valve and comprises a piston P having grooves 17 and a reduced head 18 forming a throttle passage. The devices on each cylinder of a multi-cylinder pump may be arranged to cut out each cylinder successively.
