Abstract

232,286. Hughes, C. Dec. 14, 1923. Single-acting suction-valveless pumps ; valveless pumps ; air vessels; pistons; piston packing. -The pressure end of the piston 3 has a chamber 3<x> provided with one or more ports 16 which communicate alternately with inlet and delivery ports 10, 11 in the pump barrel 2. The hollow portion of the piston may be screwed into the main portion 3a, and the latter may be formed with a thin expansible sleeve 17 which is forced against the barrel during the delivery stroke by the liquid acting on its inner surface through ports 19. The barrel communicates by a passage 7 with a cylinder 4 arranged parallel to the barrel 2 and containing a spring-pressed piston 5.
