Abstract
248,252. Soc. des Condenseurs Delas. June 16, 1925, [Convention date]. Double-acting piston pumps; single-acting suction-valveless piston pumps; pumps for hot and volatile liquids. - A pump for extracting liquid at a pressure near that of its saturated vapour at the temperature of working comprises a barrel 5 provided with suction and delivery valves 6, 8 and with two ports 9, 11, one communicating with the suction pipe 7, the other with the upper part of the supply vessel 1, or with a chamber where the pressure is that of the saturated vapour, or with a device for maintaining said pressure. At the end of the suction stroke the plunger 4 uncovers these ports so that the vapours in the barrel can pass to the vessel 1 and theliquid fill the barrel under the pressure head between the vessel and barrel. In another form, the pressure in the barrel is reduced below that of the saturated vapour by a suction apparatus arranged between the port 11 and the vessel 1. In another form, the suction valve is dispensed with, and the liquid enters the barrel through the port 9. The pump may be double-acting and may have a differential plunger, the ports 9 and 11 being arranged in a transverse partition through which the plunger works. Specification 214,138 is referred to.
