Abstract

1485767 Reciprocating pumps UNILEVER Ltd 2 Dec 1974 [6 Dec 1973] 56536/73 Heading F1A A finger actuated pump for mounting on a container of liquid or gel comprises a piston 14 moved on its suction stroke by a spring 18 to draw liquid from the container into cylinder 15 via check-valve 22, and moved on its discharge stroke by finger pressure to pressurize the liquid in cylinder 15 and transfer it into a discharge chamber 24, 25 via passages 23, the pressure energy being stored by a spring-loaded annular piston 26 until piston 14 has moved down sufficiently for piston port 17 to register with cylinder ports 28 whereupon the contents of chamber 25 are discharged by piston 26 via stem 16 of piston 14 and an actuator button, e.g. as a spray. The cross-sectional area of piston 26 is preferably between two and twenty five times that of piston 14 to provide a suitable discharge pressure.
