Abstract

1414637 Reciprocating pumps; pressurized dispensing containers PFEIFFER KUNSTSTOFFTECHNIIK GmbH & CO KG 15 Dec 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 57964/72 Headings F1A and F1R A dispensing pump or pressurized dispensing container has a drip-preventing arrangement comprising a reabsorption chamber located between the outlet valve and the outlet. In the embodiment shown, the reabsorption chamber 38 is defined by a resilient diaphragm 39 on the operating button 31 of a piston rod 18. Depression of button 31 reduces the volume of chamber 38 and effects the discharge stroke of piston 17, liquid being discharged from chamber 19 via passage 27, valves 28 and 35 and outlet 32 until the piston skirt enters recess 20, whereupon the pressure in chamber 19 is released via apertures 41 and valve 28 closes. On release of button 31, the resilience of diaphragm 39 restores it to its position shown, and liquid is sucked back from outlet 32 via valve 35 and aperture 30 into chamber 38. Valve 35 comprises a resilient plate with slits defining flaps which can open in either direction. Container 12 is vented during dispensing by ports 41, and a clearance between piston rod 18 and sleeve 16 which is closed by the piston 17 in its position shown. In Fig. 4 (not shown), diaphragm 39 is replaced by a spring- loaded piston (45) which also functions as the outlet valve, the discharge pressure moving the piston to its open position against a spring, which returns the piston to close the discharge passage and suck back liquid from the outlet at the end of the discharge stroke.
