Abstract

1,030,452. Reciprocating dispensing pumps; syringes. W. B. SPATZ. Feb. 1, 1965 [April 21, 1964], No. 4209/65. Headings F1A and F1R. Liquid or semi-liquid material M is dispensed from a container 10 by means of a bucket piston 14 having a valve member 17 actuated by a member 23 prior to the member 23 abutting the piston to force material through the outlet 15. A spring 14 having a seat member 49 which engages a shoulder on the member 32 returns the valve member 17 to its closed position and subsequently returns the piston 14. A follower piston 13, subject to atmospheric pressure, moves forwardly against the material M to retain the space forwardly thereof filled. Rearward movement of the follower piston is prevented by latch fingers 65. The piston 14 and actuating member 23 are mounted on the container 10 for floating movement relative thereto in order to provide for volume variation of the material M caused by temperature changes, play being provided between the base of spring seat 49 and the end 10a of the container before abutment of a lip on the container and a shoulder on member 23. The valve member 17 is connected to the member 23 by a pin 28 which engages with a boss 27, the boss being of greater cross-sectional area than the outlet 15 in order to produce suction in the container whilst the valve is closing and thereby prevent drip from the outlet.
