1304903 Reciprocating pumps SOC TECHNIQUE DE PULVERISATION 6 July 1970 [7 July 1969 26 March 1970] 32652/70 Heading F1A An atomizer pump for mounting on a liquid container 2 comprises a piston 11 with a lostmotion sliding connection to a rod 7 operated by a button 8 incorporating an atomizer nozzle 10. Downward movement of button 8 moves rod flange 7a to engage piston 11 after moving valve 15 downwardly to close opening 16 in hollow piston 13 and moving the hollow piston 13 downwardly to open a clearance between portion 13a and piston 11. Continued downward movement causes liquid in pumping chamber 14 to be discharged via said clearance and rod passage 9a, 9. Upward movement of the piston assembly is effected by spring 17 which first moves valve 15 to uncover opening 16, and hollow piston 13 to close said clearance, so that liquid is drawn into chamber 14 from dip tube 6 via chamber 5 and opening 16. The container is vented via opening 12 which is closed by engagement of piston surface 11b with sleeve 3 in the upper end position of piston 11. In Fig. 7 (not shown), the arrangement is such that rod 7 engages piston 11 without moving piston 13 downwardly to open the clearance between piston 13 and piston 11, so that discharge does not take place until pressure has built up in chamber 14 sufficiently to move piston 13 downwardly to open the clearance. Rod 7 and valve 15 may be made in one piece. In Fig. 5, valve 15 is omitted and a passage 13b in piston 13 connects dip tube 6 to chamber 14 during the suction stroke via passage 11c in piston 11. On the discharge stroke, rod 7 moves piston 13 downwardly so that passage 11c communicates with rod passage 9b and passage 13b is closed.
