Abstract

1485280 Reciprocating pumps YOSHINO KOGYOSHO CO Ltd 14 Nov 1974 [15 Nov 1973 25 Dec 1973 29 March 1974 1 May 1974] 49330/74 Heading F1A An atomizer suitable for atomizing perfume or cosmetic preparations, comprises a nozzle 23 mounted in an atomizer head 20 which is vertically movable within a guide tube 4 threaded on to the neck 2 of a container 1 for liquid to be atomized, liquid to be atomized being drawn up through a one-way valve 9 into a pressure chamber defined by upper and lower cylinders 21, 7 respectively on a pressure reduction in said chamber effected by upward movement of head 20 from a depressed condition, the liquid in said chamber then being pressurized on depressing head 20 together with a slidable member 13, providing communication between cylinders 7, 21 and urged upwardly by a spring 19 to normally close a passage 22 in the head 20 leading to the nozzle, until the pressure forces the member 13 down to open passage 22 for liquid flow therethrough, as a result of the differential forces of the liquid pressure acting on the upper portion 16 of member 13, which is of larger effective area, and the lower portion 14 thereof, which is of smaller effective area. Valve 9 may be of ball type or it may comprise a valve-member formed on the lower end of an elongated stem (30) Fig. 6 (not shown), said stem being slidable into the bore of the sliding member on depressing the atomizer head. Thus the volume of the larger cylinder and the bore of the slidable member is decreased substantially during the depressing stroke so that the quantity of air which might otherwise be left therein to prevent efficient suction of liquid is reduced. Modifications providing grooves in the lower part of the lower cylinder for the exit of such air are disclosed. The sliding member may be made of an upper and a lower part fitted into each other. Further, a tube (27) Fig. 4 (not shown) may depend from the atomizer head in communication at its upper portion with nozzle (23) and carrying a piston (16a) and at its lower end which is slidably received in an upper portion, (21b) of member (13), a valve-member (18) supported in said portion (21b) closing said tube (27) except when member (13) is moved down separately from the atomizer head to allow liquid passage to the nozzle.
