Abstract

390,443. Rotary compressers. KETTERER, E., 3, Fischerstrasse, and REIS, H., 58, Cranachstrasse, both in Essen, Germany. Oct. 17, 1932, No. 28938. Convention date, Oct. 19,1931. [Class 110 (ii).] In a rotary compresser which has a revoluble piston 8 mounted eccentrically on the shaft 4, and two abutments 11, 12, which also act as inlet slide valves to admit air through ports 18 into the crescentshaped working chambers 29, spring-pressed, L-shaped, packing bars 35 are forced outwards by half cylindrical blocks 49, Figs. 3 and 5, which bear each on inward projections 41 of two packing bars 36. The bars 36 fit in recesses 39 in the ends of packing bars 35. Blocks 49 in the two spaces 42 act upon the two outer pressure bars 36, while the blocks 49 in spaces 43 act upon two inner bars 36 A spring-pressed piston 52 presses against the four extensions 37 of the bars 35, and a sealing member 56, which extends across the width of the abutment, is pressed outwards against the casing walls by springs 63. Further packing pieces 65, 66 are provided around the sides of each abutment which prevent leakage of the air contained in spaces 64, Fig. 1, which act as cushions for the abutments. The abutments are connected by bars 15, 16, so that the distance between the inner ends 13 is always equal to the diameter of the piston 8. The piston has an annular groove 91, Fig. 12, which contains packing rings 92, 93, packing washers 94, 97, and spring rings 95, 96, which press outwardly and inwardly respectively. Pistons 99 are pressed outwards by springs 102. The outer packing ring 92 has a ring of teeth 104 which mesh with corresponding teeth on the piston periphery. In the neighbourhood of the compression chamber 27, Fig. 1, where the highest pressure exists, the compressed fluid is led through bores in the packing rings 92, 94, 95, 97, 98, to force them all outwards.
