Abstract

1292206 Rotary positive-displacement pumps WESTINGHOUSE BREMSEN-UND APPARATEBAU GmbH 2 Feb 1970 [3 Feb 1969] 4863/70 Heading F1F A gear pump has an externally-toothed pinion 3 on a rotary shaft 4 meshing with an internallytoothed ring 5, which is situated between pressureloaded cheek-plates 20, 21 and fixed to a rotatable ring 6, suction and delivery chambers 7, 10 being separated from each other by a demi-crescent- shaped filler 26. Radial pressures on the rings 5, 6 are partially balanced by fluid in chambers 13, 14 connected to gear-tooth spaces in the ring by bores 17, the resultant force being small and urging the ring towards lands 15, 16. The ring 5 may be made of sintered material. Pressure-loading chambers 22, 23 for the plates 20, 21 communicate with the chamber 10 and are limited by rings 24, 25 aligned with the chamber 7. The filler engages with apertures 28, 29 in the plates 20, 21 and has pins 36, 37 extending into spring-loaded pistons 32, 33, which by partially rotating said plates press the filler towards the chamber 7 to minimize leakage from the chamber 10. Fluid pressure in the chamber 10 also urges the filler towards the chamber 7. The load on the filler is regulated by pressure in the chamber 10 acting on the pistons in opposition to the springs.
