943,428. Gear pumps and motors. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. May 18, 1961 [May 19, 1960], No. 18231/61. Heading F1F. A reversible gear pump or motor has its bearings 22 pressure end loaded by working fluid fed behind a loadingplate 29. A sealing strip 31 is fitted in a slot 30 in the loading plate thereby defining two pressure chambers, only one of which receives high pressure fluid. Fluid which has leaked down the flanks of the gears collects in chambers 44, 46, joined by a passage 48 in one of the gears, and escapes to the low pressure chamber through holes 41 or 42, which are covered by reed-type valves closed by leaf springs pressed against the cover 28 (Fig. 3 not shown).
