Abstract

1,249,732. Radial cylinder pumps or motors. HITACHI Ltd. Jan.30, 1969 [Feb. 5, 1968; Feb.21, 1968 (2)], No.5138/69. Heading F1A. In an inwardly acting radial cylinder pump or motor in which the pistons carry balls or rollers 9 and are reciprocated by a multilobed cam 11, the side thrust force F1 which is exerted by each piston on its associated cylinder wall on the outward stroke is counterbalanced by the admission of pressure liquid between the piston and cylinder at the position of application of that force. As shown in Fig. 3 a cylinder block having cylinders 2 rotates with a shaft 1 Fig. 1 (not shown) and has secured thereto an annular valve member 14 rotatable about a valve surface 20 of a valve body 19 secured to the casing (10), the valve body 19, for motor operation, alternately supplying and exhausting pressure liquid from the working chamber 13 via passages 14, and supply passage 21 on the pressure stroke, and passages 14 and exhaust passage 22 on the exhaust stroke. With the motor rotating anti-clockwise pressure liquid is admitted to chamber 13 and also passes through supply passages 21, 31 communicating on the outward stroke with distribution recesses 41 open via passage 33 to the opening 35 in the cylinder 2 to counterbalance the thrust force F1 When the motor rotates clockwise the thrust force acts on the opposite wall of the cylinder and is counterbalanced through opening 36. In alternative constructions the passages supplying pressure liquid to the gaps between the piston and cylinder are located within the piston and maybe provided with spring-loaded lift valves which automatically control the flow of liquid according to the gap between the piston and cylinder. In a further embodiment the passages are located in the cylinder and have restrictions controlling the pressure liquid flow.
