Abstract

903,402. Fuel injection pumps. BORGWARNER CORPORATION. Jan. 18, 1960, No. 1780/60. Class 102(1). A fuel injection pump comprises a rotating and reciprocating plunger 20 having a head 31 received in a recess of a cam 15, the head 31 being so shaped as to allow limited tilting of the cam relative to the head whereby the cam surface 17 remains in contact with all the rollers 16 mounted in the pump housing. The plunger is rotated by a drive shaft 14 provided with a tang 34. The plunger is provided with inlet ports 46 which register with a fuel supply chamber 49 through ports 42 during the suction stroke and a delivery port 47 which registers in turn with fuel supply lines 44 leading to the injectors. A spill port 43 is provided to by-pass fuel at the beginning of the delivery stroke and the quantity by-passed may be varied by axial adjustment of the cylinder by a screw cap 23. The parts of the pump are lubricated by fuel from the chamber 49, a passage 58 provides for lubrication of the piston, a passage 51a provides for lubrication of the drive mechanism and passages 53 lead to chambers 54 to lubricate the drive shaft through hollow pins 52 and ports are provided in the pins for lubrication of the pins in their bearings. Specification 903,401 is referred to.
