Abstract

1,061,763. Fuel-injection pumps. V.D. ROOSA. Sept. 3, 1963 [Sept. 10, 1962], No. 34722/63. Heading F1A. A fuel-injection pump comprises a rotary distributor 40 with a feed pump rotor 42 integral with one end and an injection pump cylinder block 82 mounted on the other end with an interference fit, the block 82 being axially positioned so that the feed pump rotor face 146 sealingly engages an annular wall 148 of the pump housing 10. The pump drive shaft 48 engages cylinder block 82 by splines. A radial clamping screw locates the block 82 on the rotor 40 to prevent relative rotation and may engage a slot in rotor 40 which permits axial adjustment of the block, Figs. 4 and 7 (not shown). The feed pump 42 is a rotary vane type with a pressure regulating valve 68 between its outlet and inlet. The feed pump delivery passes via a metering valve 76 to an annular groove 78 with which a transverse port 80 in rotor 40 communicates. Fuel from port 80 passes to the injection pump cylinders 84 via a ball valve 110 the opening movement of which is set by an adjusting screw 116 locked by setting material 118, e.g. epoxy resin. The injection pump delivery is distributed to injector supply passages 92 by a transverse port 90 in rotor 40. A cam track 96 effects reciprocation of the injection pump pistons 94 through rollers 98 and shoes (100) Fig. 4 (not shown), and is angularly adjustable by a piston 150 subjected to the feed pump output pressure. A band priming pump may be connected to nipple 108. The feed pump comprises two pairs of vanes 134 urged apart by springs (144) Fig. 3 (not shown) and engaging an eccentric member 136 located against rotation by a pin (138), Figs.2 and 3 (not shown).
