Abstract
1,044,543. Gaseous pressure engines. REDERI SOYA A.B. March 14, 1963 [April 4, 1962], No. 102l4/6 Headings F1M and F1S. A rotary engine is adapted to be driven by a compressed gaseous medium and comprises a pintle 1 acting as a valve, a rotor 2 mounted on the pintle and provided with cylinder spaces 3 each of which has a port which co-operates with the pintle and during rotation of the rotor on the pintle is successively in and out of communication with an inlet duct 7 and an outlet duct 8 defined by the pintle and a ring 6 mounted in the engine casing eccentrically to the pintle which ring surrounds the rotor and has curved recesses 5 formed therein which are engaged by pistons 4 movable in the cylinder spaces which pistons during rotation of the rotor propel the ring and at the same time are reciprocated thereby between outer and inner dead centres, the pintle being movably mounted by means permitting transverse displacement of the pintle relative to the axis of the ring along a predetermined path. The datum angle of the pintle may remain constant during displacement. The datum angle may be selected so that a precompression is obtained and the precompression pressure obtained in each cylinder space is equal or substantially equal to the pressure which prevails in the inlet duct of the pintle when the relevant port comes into communication with the inlet duct. The rotor may be reversed by displacement of the pintle. The path of displacement may be rectilinear or curved. While the pintle illustrated has plane boundary surfaces 12, 14, other shapes may be used.
