Abstract
738,296. Rotary pumps. ORR, H. C. H. Jan. 21, 1954 [Oct. 22, 1952], No. 26539/52. Class 110 (2). The pump comprises inner and outer rotors 15, 14 rotating about axes 35, 36 respectively. For clockwise rotation of the rotors, the chambers formed by the coacting teeth and recesses increase in volume on the right-hand side of the axes, the teeth not being in contact. During the discharge phase (left-hand side), the teeth contact one another (see Fig. 5). The sealing surfaces are generally semi-cylindrical and the radius of one surface, which is concave, exceeds that of the co-operating surface, which is convex, by an amount equal to the eccentricity of the rotors. One of the convex edges may be sharp to form a sealing line. The rotors, having the same number of teeth, are contained within a cavity 11 in a casing 10, which also encloses a stationary valve plate 12 located by dowels 13. A shaft 16 drives the inner rotor 15 from an electric motor to which a bridge-piece 19 is secured. The shaft may have bearings within the casing. The concave surfaces 32 of the outer rotor can be formed by drilling a number of holes axially, boring and turning. One or both rotors may be formed of laminated plastic material such as fabric-reinforced synthetic resin. One or more channels 39 may be provided in the periphery of the inner rotor to prevent trapping of liquid. Inlet and outlet passages 41, 42 lead to ports 43, 44 in the casing. In an alternative construction, the casing may have ports to communicate with ports in the periphery of the outer rotor instead of, or in addition to, ports at the end.
